Confronting the Challenge of Diversity
Framing diversity as a problem sets the stage for how communities will react to the change. Unfortunately, American schools have historically seen cultural assimilation of immigrants and nonwhites as central to their mission. Instead of responding with fear and insecurity, communities should treat plurality as an asset that can benefit everyone. (MLH)
