    Presents a multicultural framework for thinking about, assessing, and working with people with deafness from Asian and Asian Deaf backgrounds. Emphasis is placed on cultural awareness and cultural competence for professionals and on building bridges across cultural networks.
  • Foreign Language Instruction: Tips for Accommodating Hard-of-Hearing and Deaf Students
    This training module presents information, both specific and general, about including postsecondary students with deafness and hearing impairments in foreign language classes. First, a variety of reasons for making sure that students with hearing impairments are not excluded from foreign languages are covered, including the need for improving attitudes toward language learning, improving English skills, and encouraging a heightened understanding of different cultures.
  • PEPNet 2000 Innovation in Education. Conference Proceedings (Denver, Colorado, April 5-8, 2000)
    This proceedings focuses on the best practices and most effective strategies for meeting the needs of postsecondary students who are deaf and hard of hearing. A list of multicultural resources is provided, along with a recommending elementary reading list of multicultural readings.
  • Tostada Preparation Provides Educational Feast: Preschoolers Learn Language, Explore Culture
    Describes a multicultural inclusive preschool program in which children with and without disabilities communicate by using English, Spanish, and sign language. How students were taught a cross-cultural language lesson by making tostadas during International Foods Week is reviewed.
  • Transition Planning and Programming: Empowerment through Partnership. Sharing Ideas
    This paper addresses transition for deaf and hard of hearing youth as a longitudinal and developmental progression of experiences that lead to economic self-sufficiency; self-determination in personal, educational, vocational, social, and leisure pursuits; and participation in community life. The paper proposes 18 premises that describe how parents, schools, and other stakeholders can work together with students to foster an effective transition process.
