The Influence of Teacher Background on the Inclusion of Multicultural Education: A Case Study of Two Contrasts

Examined the impact of preservice teachers' backgrounds on their multicultural perspectives in teaching secondary social studies, highlighting two student teachers with widely different backgrounds and beliefs. Data from papers, interviews, and observations showed significant differences in perspectives. Student teacher race, gender, and social class; prior experience with diversity; and support for ideologies of individualism partially explained the differences. (SM)
