Acculturation of Vietnamese Students Living in or Away from Vietnamese Communities
A t-test comparison of the acculturation levels of Vietnamese students living in or away from Vietnamese communities found higher overall acculturation for the former than for the latter group and no difference in the Value dimension of acculturation. Age and length of residency in the United States predicted acculturation.

Global competency is defined as a continuum of behavior that begins with personal awareness of cultural differences and culminates in a person successfully functioning in another culture or country. The importance of increasing the numbers of community college students who will live, study, or work abroad is stressed.

Learning Multiculturalism from the Experience of International Students: The Experience of International Students in a Teacher Training Program
This study explored the aspect of international student culture. To understand how international students perceived their experience as foreign students and how they make efforts to break down language and culture boundaries while they are studying abroad, five international graduate students in the college of education in a large mid-Atlantic University were interviewed.

Thai Exchange Students' Encounters with Ethnocentrism: Developing a Response for the Secondary Global Education Curriculum
Reports that previous research showed that many individuals are ethnocentric and lack global awareness. Provides an overview of theories related to ethnocentrism; presents data illustrating attitudes experienced by Thai exchange students in the United States; and introduces a pedagogical approach to global education that minimizes ethnocentrism and enhances global awareness.

The Vocational Situation and Country of Orientation of International Students
A culturally relevant career development needs assessment survey was administered to 227 international college students. Factor analysis indicates that the participants' vocational needs centered on obtaining work experience, overcoming interview barriers, and developing job search skills.

Provides an overview of the adjustment concerns of international students and explores venues for inclusion of this population in multicultural training and counselor competency development opportunities for graduate students. Highlights a model of programming implemented at a private university that provides training opportunities for counselors-in-training.
