The Promise of Adulthood
This chapter explores the status of adulthood and discusses how adulthood applies to people with severe disabilities. The point is not that people with severe disabilities who are over the age of 18 or 21 are somehow not adults, of course, they are adults. The problem is that the field of disability studies has not spent enough time thinking through exactly what adulthood means.
