Developing Teaching for Tolerance Programs in Central and Eastern Europe
Polish society, characterized by closed attitudes toward religious minorities, is poorly prepared for contact with other cultures; yet postcommunist Poland is becoming increasingly heterogeneous. Intercultural education infused throughout the curriculum would help children learn tolerance. A proposed center to train teachers in intercultural education is described. Lists 12 teaching-for-tolerance programs in Europe and the United States. (TD)
