The Rhetoric of Diversity and the Traditions of American Literary Study: Critical Multiculturalism in English. Critical Studies in Education and Culture Series
This book considers the concept and practices of a noncritical multiculturalism as it has functioned historically and as it is widely practiced in U.S. university English programs. Multiculturalism as experienced in U.S. English programs serves to reproduce privileged discourse that inadvertently reproduces the same oppressive practices it would resist in the academic communities of composition and literature. A critical multiculturalism attempts to make visible the means through which multicultural reality has been subordinated to a monocultural hegemonic agenda.
